Being a Creative Person

How does a creative person keep up their creative process?

Sometimes it’s just hard to keep the creative juices flowing, especially when you have other life priorities that take precedence. My passion is oil painting and more in the line of fine art painting, not abstract. The picture here shows watercolors and this picture is one I took in my studio. I have watercolors and acrylics and oils and lots of mixed media stuff. I believe an artist needs to mix it up a little to keep learning, so sometimes I do play in the other mediums.

Does it help for a creative person to take classes outside their craft?

Yes, and one that I don’t like to do, but I do. As you can see from my portfolio, I like to paint about music and romance. No one teaches classes on that, but there are classes/workshops on landscapes and pet portraits and people portraits and drawing and watercolor. Those are subjects that I have no interest in at all…not even a small inkling. But, I will take some of the classes. Why? Because I still learn. I know that I’m still new in the art world. Even if I had been painting my whole life, there will still be something I can learn from other painters.

Does it help an artist to join local art groups?

Absolutely it does. I started joining different groups immediately based on a recommendation from another artist friend. The groups I get the most from are groups that have both men and women, not just majority women. I just have to be careful not to get too involved in too many or I’ll not have time to paint and that’s what I really want to do.

If you are an artist reading this, I hope you keep exploring your craft and keep the creative juices flowing.

If you are someone that just loves art and you are reading this, I hope you keep loving art and encouraging all the artists to keep exploring.
